This is probably the oldest idol of Lord Ganesha that I've seen. It was installed in a small niche at the 14th century Hoysala temple at Belur and apparently, devotees still offer flowers here. What fascinates me most about this depiction of Ganesha is the two figurines on His either side, which, if I am not mistaken (and I'll be happy to be corrected here), are his wives Siddhi and Buddhi.
