When I transitioned from my point and shoot Minolta to a digital SLR a year ago, there were several basics that took time to sink in. The most important one of them was the fact that when you set exposure time to 10 seconds, the shutter actually stays open for that long! And that when the camera is pointing towards a bright source of light, moving it when the shutter is open, causes the light source to leave bright motion trails in your photograph. This is the shot that brought these two points home with remarkable clarity. What is that word for chanced discoveries? Serendipity!
